Description:

One, two, three. She counts the bodies dragged from the burning beach house, smoke rising from their cotton pajamas, and remembers a fourth; red hair, freckles, clinging to his mother’s legs, begging to watch the fireworks a while longer. “Where’s the little boy?” she whispers…

In the ashes of the Fox family’s seafront vacation home, Olivia Rockwell can barely hold back her tears as she wonders who in the close-knit town of Fog Harbor could destroy such a warm, loving family. Then she spots a little green toy soldier in the sand and follows a set of small footprints along the beach to an abandoned lifeguard hut. Inside, she finds the youngest Fox child, Thomas. The only survivor…

Holding his trembling body close, Olivia promises to keep him safe. She knows the agony of losing family at such a young age. But the second Thomas catches sight of Detective Will Decker’s sliver police badge over her shoulder, the little boy’s scream pierces the night. Could the family have been targeted by someone sworn to protect them? Is anyone safe if the police themselves are the primary suspect?

Unsure who she can trust, Olivia keeps hold of the tiny horseshoe charm she finds at the scene and follows the trail deep into the web of lies surrounding this seemingly perfect family. But just as a tip-off from a local lighthouse-keeper puts the killer within reach, tragedy strikes: little Thomas is snatched from his bed.

Up against a calculating monster who seems to know her every weakness, Olivia must dig deeper than ever before to find this innocent child. But when one twisted killer becomes two, can she stay alive long enough to save him?

A totally gripping and utterly addictive page-turner that will have you biting your nails and reeling at the twists. Perfect for fans of Melinda Leigh, Lisa Regan and Kendra Elliot!

Author Bio:

Forensic psychologist by day, novelist by night, Ellery Kane has been writing--professionally and creatively--for as long as she can remember. Just like many of her main characters, Ellery loves to ask why, which is the reason she became a psychologist in the first place. Real life really is stranger than fiction, and Ellery's writing is often inspired by her day job. Evaluating violent criminals and treating trauma victims, she has gained a unique perspective on the past and its indelible influence on the individual. And she's heard her fair share of real life thrillers.

Ellery lives in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, a picturesque setting that provides the backdrop for many of her novels. If you don't find Ellery interviewing murderers behind prison walls or pecking away at her latest novel, she is probably at the gym landing a solid jab-cross to a punching bag; riding bicycles with her special someone; or enjoying a movie the old-fashioned way--at the theater with popcorn and Milk Duds.

Ellery was previously selected as one of ten semifinalists in the MasterClass James Patterson Co-Author Competition, and she recently signed a three book deal with Bookouture for her new Rockwell and Decker mystery thriller series. The first book is scheduled for release in 2020.

Rating: 5

Would I recommend it? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes, in fact I have his first book to read and after reading this one I can't wait to get to it to read as well.

Now on to my thoughts
First off a big thank you to Booksirens a well as to the author for letting me read and review Salem's Ropes .Now I could say how good it was at that but what else can I say that will make you want to pick this up and read , how about I mention how the author brings to life the world of dark magic, witchcraft, sinister conspiracies, and deadly betrayals. As well his pick for the perfect setting of his story a house that already has a dark and twist history and that helps set off the story so well that I was like nope that is a house I would never live in or even want to visit. Is also the perfect story to read at night if you like to do that like I do sometimes or the perfect read for October. And its a type of story that will make you question everything you thought you knew as well a question whither the main character is going mad or is it the house itself that is doing it .

Inspired by historical events, a story of America’s oldest and darkest secrets.
After a business trip to Boston, George Lawson announces to his family that he bought the Ropes Mansion in Salem Massachusetts; a historic mansion that is 300 years old. His wife and daughter are skeptical but acquiesce.
Over forty of the mansion’s owners have died unnaturally, were murdered, or committed suicide since 1720. Salem’s residents warn George about living in the Ropes, but he is convinced he can uncover the mystery.
The family is torn apart after George becomes increasingly obsessed with uncovering the dark history of Salem and their new home. He discovers mysterious objects and Masonic symbols carved onto the walls of their basement.
After a smoke alarm goes off in the middle of the night, firefighters discover smoldering embers behind a basement wall – along with strange human remains. Police are called and suspect that there is more to the story than George will admit. Like countless others in the Ropes house before, George and his family fight a descent into madness.

First off I  want to say a  huge  thank you to the publisher  Bookouture,  the author Karen King, and to NetGalley for inviting me to join the blog tour for this book as well as letting me read and review it . As to why I liked the book so much was because I had no idea who was lying or telling the truth, page after page there was twist and turns, and kept me asking throughout the  book what happened to the younger sister , did their new stepmom have something to do with it or was she took by a stranger and if so why.

Would I read more by this author? Yes
First off I  want to say a  huge  thank you to the publisher  Bookouture ,  the author Rita Herron , and to NetGalley for inviting me to join the blog tour for this book as well as letting me read and review it. Wow this one was non stop action right from the very start and the flow of the story had me hooked ,so much so that every time I wanted o put it down I could, loved the inter action between the characters and how twisted the killer's character was , and how the author kept adding twist and turns to the story line as well, another thing I loved was the excitement, and tension of the story at the same time I  admiring the author’s skill in pulling all the disparate threads together so much so that I can't wait to read more of her work or even re read the series all together. As for the characters themselves I would have to say that  Ellie is my favorite  one , because of how strong she seemed even when she was finding out things about her family as well as her past. Plus when ever I now hear the sound of a clock its going to remind me always of this story but to find out how that plays into it , you have to pick this up and read it for yourself.

Description:

The girl was beautiful, even in death. Her skin was translucent beneath the sliver of moonlight peeking through the bare branches of the surrounding pines, and her chestnut hair had tumbled around her pale shoulders. Around her, smoke twisted in the air, curling into the inky sky.

The remote town of Crooked Creek has barely recovered from its most recent tragedy when wildfires tear through the mountains. Detective Ellie Reeves is grappling with her own heartbreak––she has just discovered she was adopted and that her childhood was a lie.

Under the scorching summer sun, Ellie is called to a river where a body has been found. She spots a lone woman’s shoe caught in a nearby tangle of vines, and a pearl necklace scattered by the water’s edge. The remains are surrounded by a circle of stones, which Ellie is certain means something. Was the victim––whoever she was––caught in the fire or is something more sinister at play?

The Fourth of July usually means festivals and fireworks, but when another body turns up the town is left in tatters. A young girl with dark hair lies dead, surrounded by stones, smoke drifting in the air. Thanks to an engraved silver necklace, Ellie identifies the body as eighteen-year-old Katie Lee Curtis, and the diary she finds hidden under the teenager’s mattress could get her close to the killer.

With two victims in less than twenty-four hours, it’s clear Ellie’s up against a serial killer, and she vows that no more innocent girls will be sacrificed. For her, every day is a battle to come to terms with her past, but when this case becomes personal, will she win?

A totally gripping and utterly addictive page-turner that will have you racing through and reeling at the twists. Perfect for fans of Melinda Leigh, Lisa Regan and Kendra Elliot, it’s best read with the lights on

My thoughts

Would I recommend it ? Yes

Would I read more by this author? Yes

First off I  want to say a  huge  thank you to the publisher   Graydon House - HARLEQUIN – Trade Publishing (U.S. & Canada) ,the author  Kelly Rimmer , and to NetGalley for inviting me to join the blog tour for this book as well as letting me read and review it.

Just like I say always before when I go into a historical fiction WW 2 based story there are  a few things I look for and they are :

1: author has done their research - in this case this is the 2nd book by this author that I've read and I  would say yes she has done her research

2: they bring their characters and their settings to life ? Yes , because she puts the setting and the characters in a time that during the dark time period Holocaust.

3: they make you feel everything that the characters feel : to this question as  well , because right from the very start you get to see and feel what the main characters where feeling from their hunger and the despair of not known what was going to happen next .

4: and by the end of the book your a emotional wreck because it will make you  will make you cry . By the end of the book all your want to do is reach out and give each of the characters a hug and be there for them. And while its historical fiction its based on a true story that needs to be told in away that will make us never forget these brave souls , the ones that lived to tell the story as well as the ones that didn't make it.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
With the thrilling pace and historical drama of Pam Jenoff and Kristin Hannah, New York Times bestselling author Kelly Rimmer's newest novel is an epic WWII saga and love story, based on the real-life efforts of two young people taking extraordinary risks to save their countrymen, as they try to find their way back to each other and the life they once knew.

Following on the success of The Things We Cannot Say, this is Kelly Rimmer's return to the WWII category with a brand new novel inspired by Irena Sendler, the real-life Polish nurse who used her access to the Warsaw ghetto to smuggle Jewish children and babies to safety.

Spanning the tumultuous years between 1942 and 1945 in Poland, The Warsaw Orphan follows Emilia over the course of the war, her involvement with the Resistance, and her love for Sergiusz, a young man imprisoned in the Jewish ghetto who's passion leads him to fight in the Warsaw Uprising. From the Warsaw ghetto to the Ravensbruck concentration camp, through Nazi occupation to the threat of a communist regime, Kelly Rimmer has penned her most meticulously researched and emotionally compelling novel to date.
