First off I want to say huge  thank you to the publisher Melissa Ricketts -BooksGoSocial , the author  Melissa Mitchell , and to NetGalley for letting me request and read it, and can I say it was the cover that caught my eye in the first place . So lettings get in to what of I thought of the book, first off if you love dragons then this is right up your ally, second if you've ever read the book series The Selection ( which I haven't but I know what its about ) then you might want to check this one out because its in my opinion way better because it has dragon shifters in it and a main character that known's her own mind and what she wants.

For twenty-seven hopefuls, discovering a mate-bond with Dragonwall's princess offers a chance to gain the crown.

When King Cornan issues a summons, hopefuls flock to the capital to try their luck with the princess. Lena wants absolutely nothing to do with them, but she understands the rules of Dragonwall's Charter. If she fails to find her mate by the age of eighteen, she must relinquish the crown. All she has trained for will be lost.

Fate deals Lena a terrible blow. Then a mysterious stranger appears to compete for the crown, with pearlescent dragon scales and smoldering green eyes. Tristan's name is on everyone's lips, even Lena's. As she gets to know him, she begins to question everything. Perhaps the life she has always wanted might not compare to the unimaginable future Tristan has to offer.

First off I want to say huge  thank you to the publisher MIRA-HARLEQUIN – Trade Publishing (U.S. & Canada), the author Courtney Evan Tate and to NetGalley for inviting me to join the blog tour for this book as well as letting me read and review it.because like always they found me something that I enjoyed reading and couldn't put down if I wanted to. This book has all the twists and turns I could want as well as showing just how  far someone will go to get back at someone and that person may never see it coming. In fact I can actually seen something like this happening real life. as for the story itself its told in the perspectives of both of the sisters so you  get to hear both of their sides. As for liking  them, I just kind of felt sorry for the both of them even though they themselves was the ones to be blame for what was going in their lives.

Book Summary:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Courtney Evan Tate's The Last to See Her (MIRA; 12/29) is a twisty, fast-paced domestic suspense about sisters, secrets and betrayal--for fans of B.A. Paris and Riley Sager.

Genevieve, a writer, is about to finalize her divorce from her cheating husband Todd. So when her sister Meg, an ambitious physician, has a convention to attend in New York City, she invites Gen along to celebrate her return to single life. It will be a perfect sisters' getaway in the big city! But things go awry when, on their first evening at the hotel, Gen decides to take a late night walk and disappears without a trace. Eventually she is officially declared a missing person.

Suspicion soon falls on her sister Meg, who was the last person to see her.

Through twists and turns, it is revealed that Meg has been sleeping with her brother-in-law Todd... And then there is a question of a newly purchased insurance policy that just has just gone into effect before Gen’s disappearance. Both Todd and Meg deny any knowledge of it.

But has an actual crime been committed? Can it be proven? And if so, who is really the guilty one?

1

Genevieve tipped the courier and set the certified letter on the coffee table. She knew what it was. She’d been waiting for it for almost a week. Every day, she’d wondered, Will it be today? And each day it wasn’t. Until today. Nervous energy buzzed through her fingers and toes, tingling through her veins, like ants scurrying in a thousand directions. She paced for a minute, stopping at the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring at the magnificent cityscape lining the horizon. Buildings burst through the hazy pollution, their tips scraping the clouds. People far below her were bustling here and there, quick to walk, slow to linger. They had things to do, places to be, and she didn’t. Not anymore. She ripped open the envelope, pulling the banded documents out, scanning through the words, hunting for the official stamps and signatures that declared this an official act of the court. They were all there. This was real. It was finally happening. She focused her gaze on the words before her. Honestly, they were simple. The black-and-whiteness of them was stark and startling. There were no gray areas, no areas open to interpretation. They reduced the last ten years of her life into a handful of legal phrases and technical terms. Incompatible differences associated with adultery, marriage dissolution and absolute divorce. She stared at the words. Soon, she would be absolutely divorced. She just had to sign the papers. It had only taken six months of her life to iron out the details. To separate all of their worldly possessions into two camps, his and hers, to figure out who got what. Divorcing a lawyer was the only thing worse than being married to one. No matter that he was the one in err, because he repeatedly fucked someone else, he was out for blood and it took months to sort it all out. But thank God no children were involved. That’s what people kept saying, like it was a good thing or a blessing. But if she’d had a child, she wouldn’t be all alone, and someone would still love her. She felt like she was floundering. For so long, she’d put all of her energy into a man who hadn’t deemed her worthy to stay faithful to. That had done something to her self- confidence. Something terrible. It wounded her in places she hadn’t known she had, and now she had to figure out who she was without him. She wasn’t Genevieve Tibault anymore, one half of a whole. She was Genevieve McCready again, and what was Genevieve McCready going to do now, now that she had to stand alone? She pushed herself off the couch and ran water in her coffee cup. It was a habit Thad had taught her. He hated it when the cups developed coffee rings. She stared at the running water, and then set her cup down. She didn’t have to do what he wanted anymore. If she wanted coffee rings or tea rings or any kind of fucking rings, she could have them. It was an epiphany. She was her own person again. It had been so long since she was a me instead of a we. She looked around, at the condo she had fought so hard for…the marble floors that they couldn’t agree on—she’d wanted slate, he’d wanted marble—at the modern light fixtures that he’d gotten his way on, at even the tan wall colors. She’d wanted gray. Why had she even wanted this place? It was all Thad, and none of Genevieve. A sense of exuberance, a strange jubilation, welled up in her as she searched online for a realtor and then dialed the phone. Bubbles of excitement swelled in her belly as she arranged a time for the realtor to come see the place. And then again, as she stared at a map. Unlike Thad, someone who had spent years building up his legal practice and honing his networking skills in this one city, she could work from anywhere. She wrote novels. She could work in Antarctica if she wanted to. She didn’t want to, but she could. She already had a plan. She knew where she was going, and what she was doing. She just had to have the courage to do it. She picked up the phone and called her only sister, Meghan. “Meg, I’m moving home.” Her sister paused. “Home as in…?” “Cedarburg.” There was a long pregnant pause now. “Um. Why would you want to move back to Wisconsin? You haven’t lived there in…” “In eighteen years. Since I left for college. Yes.” “But…why?” “I don’t know,” Gen said honestly. “I just feel a need to get back to my roots. I love Chicago, but the traffic and the noise…” She stared out from her twentieth floor windows again. Even from up here, even though the vehicles looked like Matchbox cars, she could still hear the honking. “This feels like Thad. I want to feel like me.” “There’s nothing there,” Meg said carefully. “Nothing but fields and cold and—” “And friendly people,” Gen interrupted. “And our parents, and familiarity, and open spaces, and distance from Thad.” “But I won’t be there,” Meg reminded her gently. “I’m not moving back. I think you need to be near me, Gen. You need a support system. Divorce is no joke.” “I know that,” Gen said patiently. “I’m the one living it. You’re still with your Prince Charming and point five children living the American Dream, and I’m the one sitting in an empty condo.” She fought to keep the bitterness out of her voice, as she compared Meg’s bustling, messy home to her own stark and empty condo in her mind’s eye. “I’ll tell Joey that you’re counting him as a point five,” Meg chuckled. “Well, he’s only five, so it’s fitting. I mean, honestly. He’s not a whole person yet.” They laughed again, and then Meg sobered up. “Is this really something you want to do?” Gen nodded. “Yeah. I think so.” Meg took a big breath. “Well, let’s do it, then. I’ll help you with your condo, and finding a moving company, and looking online for a house there, and hell’s bells, we’ve got a lot to do!” “You don’t have to help with all that…” Gen trailed off, but Meg interrupted with their life- long pact. “Sisters forever,” she decreed. They’d used that pact since they were kids. Whenever one didn’t want to do something, the other would remind them “sisters forever,” and they would concede. Gen realized she wasn’t going to get away with not letting Meg get her hands in all the new plans. “Sisters forever,” she agreed. “But first, you promised to go to my convention with me,” Meg reminded her. Gen hesitated. “Don’t tell me you forgot. New York City? Spa days, shopping—you need a new wardrobe, sis—and nights on the town. You promised.” Gen paused again, and Meghan cajoled, “Pleassssse. We need this. You need this. It can be your divorce party.” “Okay,” Gen found herself saying. “Fine. I’ll still come.” Her sister squealed and Gen hung up before Meg could get too excited. She was moving away from everything she’d known for over a decade. Even though the world seemed unsettled and uncertain, for the first time in at least five years, she felt at peace.

In the wake of stunning terrorist attacks around the world, Net Force jumps into action. The president’s new cybersecurity agency homes in on a dangerous figure operating in the shadows of the Carpathian mountains. And he’s ready to strike again, using the digital space to advance his destructive goals.

Excerpt from NET FORCE: ATTACK PROTOCOL
1 Satu Mare District, Romania The first snowfall of the season was dusting the banks of the Somes River when a catastrophic failure struck the power grid, plunging the western third of the country into darkness. Nicu Borgos was just an hour into his midnight shift when things went wrong. An operator for Satu Mare District’s Electrica Power Distribution Center, he was tired from caring for his daughter, who was seven and sick with the flu. His wife, Balia, a sales clerk at a clothing store, was also miserably under the weather, and he had been doing his best to help her as well. But money was tight and, like him, Balia needed to work and bring in a paycheck. The night before, she had come home from the shop, put chest rub on Angela, tucked her in, showered, and climbed into bed with her dinner untouched. Nicu normally slept until 9:00 p.m. or even a little later, but the sounds Angela was making in her room concerned him. He had lost his dear mother to the pandemic three years ago, and the outbreaks still could be vicious. Taking no chances, he’d resolved to stay up to check on the child, poking his head through the doorway every fifteen or twenty minutes. It was a while before she settled in. So Nicu was worn out and bleary, which might have been why he doubted his eyes when he saw the cursor suddenly drifting across his screen. The computer was networked into the energy grid, and the numbered blue buttons on its display controlled the circuit breakers for ten substations throughout the county—an area of almost seventeen hundred square miles, with some three hundred thousand residents. The cursor landed on the switch for Substation One. Clicked. A dialogue window opened below the button: Warning: Opening the breaker will result in complete shutdown. Do you wish to proceed? YES NO Reaching for his mouse, Nicu tried to drag the cursor out of the window, thinking its driver might have developed a minor glitch. But it remained there…and slid to Yes. He quickly swiped the mouse across its pad, wanting to move the cursor to No. It stayed on Yes. Clicked. The dialogue box vanished, and the button for Substation One changed from blue to red. Nicu inhaled. He had been an operator at the distribution center for half a decade and did not need to bring up a map to see the region each substation covered. The map was already in his head. Substation One was Lazuli, a rural commune of six villages to the extreme north, near the Ukrainian and Hungarian borders. Its six thousand residents had now gone off-line. Even as Nicu registered this, the on-screen cursor jumped to the Substation Two button. He snatched up the mouse in desperation, lifting it above the pad. It made no difference. The cursor clicked. Opened another dialogue window requesting confirmation. Went to Yes again. Click. Blue turned to red, and Nicu Borgos watched Substation Two go down in an instant. “Draga meu Domnezeu,” he rasped. “My dear God.” Substation Two was the city of Satu Mare itself. With a population of one hundred thousand—a full third of the county’s inhabitants—it was now completely dark. Nicu tried to think clearly. During the day, the operating station would have two people on shift. There was a second computer to his left, with a separate monitor. Possibly the problem was only with his machine. If he could log in to the system using the other computer, he might prevent more breakers from tripping open. He rolled his chair in front of it, tapped the keyboard. The computer came out of idle showing the operator log-in screen. He entered his username and password. A Wrong Password notification flashed on-screen. He slowly retyped the password, thinking he might have entered a wrong character in his haste. The notification appeared again. He was locked out of the system. Nicu sat up straight, his spine a stiff rod of tension. His original machine showed that Substation Three, which provided power to Negresti Oas’s twelve thousand citizens, was down. He glanced at its screen just in time to see the cursor move to Substation Four…the distribution station for the commune Mediesu Aurit’s seven villages. The two stations combined served more than twenty thousand customers. He remembered that tonight’s temperature was forecast to drop below freezing in the mountain areas, and felt suddenly helpless. Whatever was causing the shutdowns, he could not deal with the growing emergency himself. His heart pounding, he reached for the hotline to call his supervisor. The black BearCat G3 bore north on the unmarked strip of macadam that linked Satu Mare City to the tiny farming village of Rosalvea in the Carpathian foothills. Its windshield wipers beating off fat, wet flutters of snow, the vehicle moved smoothly and quietly for a big four-tonner armored with hardened ballistic steel panels. At the wheel was Scott Dixon of the CIA’s elite manhunting Fox Team, recently placed under operational detachment to Net Force. Kali Alcazar sat beside him. In her late twenties, she had short silver-white hair and wore a black stealthsuit and lightweight plate vest. They were standard organizational issue. A Victorian English adventurer’s belt and a vintage film-canister pendant hanging from her neck were personal additions. “How we doing timewise?” Dixon asked. Kali looked at her dash screen. On it was the same controller’s interface Nicu Borgos was struggling with at the power distribution center. A moment ago she had seen the circuits trip in rapid succession. “Pickles,” she said. Using the unfortunate name given to the vehicle’s AI by its architect, Sergeant Julio Fernandez. “Yes, K?” “Outlier,” she corrected. Using the dark web handle she had long ago created for herself. “Yes, K.” “Bring up the Satu Mare power grid.” “Yes, K.” She clicked her tongue. Fernandez had infused the AI with one too many of his stubbornly aggravating personality traits. But the upside was that, like Julio, it was also smart, nuanced, and intuitive. She could live with it. In front of her now, the panel on-screen was replaced by a sector-by-sector map of the region, its cities and towns numbered according to the substations that supplied their electricity. The five already off-line were black, the rest red. She watched as a sixth went dark. “Over half the stations are down,” she said. “Total blackout in about five minutes.” “Bitter cold out, a quarter million people without light or heat,” Dixon said. “Women, children, seniors. All for the sake of bagging one guy.” She glanced over at him. “The hackers—the technologie vampiri—are the local economy. The government protects them. The polizei, the citizens, everyone.” He shrugged with his hands on the wheel. She was right. Suspicions definitely would have been raised at the syndicate’s current headquarters— the Wolf’s Lair—if they only cut power to its surrounding village. “I get it,” he said. “Still tough.” “Tougher than it was on New York?” Dixon didn’t answer. Four months ago the vampiri had launched a cyberattack that left the East Coast a shambles, killed hundreds, and almost took out the President. Now his team’s pursuit of the Wolf had led them out here to the Romanian boonies, making them key players in the first fully integrated operation conducted by the various elements of America’s new Department of Internet Security and Law Enforcement. Net Force, in bureaucratic government shorthand. He really did get it. The BearCat rolled between the gigantic evergreens standing sentinel on either side of the road. In the rear compartment, Gregg Long, Fox Team, sat with a small detachment on loan from Task Force Quickdraw—six men in tactical gear with Mark 18 CQBR carbines strapped over their shoulders and short-barreled Mossberg 590 combat shotguns racked to the sides of the passenger compartment. “Distance to the target?” Dixon asked after a few minutes. This time Kali skipped the AI, tapping her computer keyboard for the GPS sat map. “Thirty-two miles.” Dixon nodded and checked the speedometer. He was doing about fifty. So a little over half an hour. Taking his hand off the wheel, he adjusted his earpiece and hailed Carmody on the ground-to-air.

First I want to say huge  thank you to the publisher Harlequin Presents-,HARLEQUIN - Romance (U.S. & Canada) the author Marcella Bell as well as to NetGalley for inviting me to join the blog tour for this book as well as letting me read and review it. Right from the start it kind of reminded me of some of the old Harlequin romance books that my grandmother would read which is a good thing because those are the ones that got me into romance when I started reading this genre. And right from the story I got lost in the story which is a good thing because those are the stories we need now with all of the craziness going on.

Book Description:

From unworldly scientist… to his fearless queen!

Mina has finally achieved her dream of becoming chief scientific advisor of Cyrano, when she’s stolen

from the interview room! She’s taken directly to the palace chapel, where the terms of a secret

betrothal mean she must marry the king—immediately. Powerful King Zayn knows all too well monarchs

can’t afford dangerous distractions like love. Yet still, he’s appalled to be wed to a complete stranger!

Mina is altogether too sensitive, too scholarly, too unpolished to be queen. But that can’t stop the

desire that flares each time she looks his way…

STOLEN TO WEAR HIS CROWN by Marcella Bell Excerpt

Mina Aldaba smoothed her palms over her hair as she took a deep breath. The motion wouldn’t do

anything against the strengsth and determination of her curls to frizz—even if there was enough

moisture in her palms to give it some hold—but it felt purposeful. On the other side of the ornately

carved door in front of her sat the men and women of Parliament—the people whose decision would

dictate whether or not she finally kept her promise to her father.

Like her hair, she was determined and untamable. She had done everything she could, with a full

heart and to the very best of her ability—and that had carried her to this side of the door, inches away

from the chance to achieve everything she had ever wanted.

The rest was up to the men and women inside.

The thought set off a series of stuttering palpitations in her chest—and not the kind that could ever

be confused with excitement.

This next part was up to fate. The only thing she could do was be herself, trust her knowledge, and hope

that that would carry her through. Unfortunately, faith wasn’t one of her stronger virtues. She hadn’t

gotten to this side of the door by wishing. She’d done it by force of will and desire, continuous studying

and practice, so she would be ready to deliver when the opportunity came.

Now was that opportunity.

She could steel her spine even if she couldn’t calm her stomach.

She wore her usual black pantsuit and white blouse. Selecting one size up and choosing a square cut

lent her hyper-feminine figure some much-needed gravitas. The hard lines of the design concealed any

hint of curve—which she appreciated, given her very round derrière and rather Rubenesque chest.

Dressing her figure for academia—or, more accurately, concealing her figure for academia—was a

challenge that she hadn’t anticipated when she’d decided to become a scientist at twelve years old.

Still, one had to accept what one had.

She would never forget the day a female colleague had taken her aside about it, though.

“You’re going to have to do something about all of that.”

Her fellow doctoral candidate had spoken blithely as she’d gestured in a vague circle toward Mina’s

jeans-clad rear and her breasts with a long red fingernail.

“It’s just too much,” she’d added. “You’ll never be taken seriously.”

At the time, the words had stung, but Mina was grateful for them. Her colleague had been right. The

thin old uni sweatshirt she’d been wearing that day had stretched across her full chest, and her jeans

had been form-fitted.

She’d looked like the student she had always been, rather than the professional academic she was

becoming, and the world she’d been about to enter was cutthroat, old-fashioned, and

antagonistic—especially if you happened to have been born with female anatomy.

As soon as she had transformed her attire, her work had begun to garner more attention. Her male

colleagues, it appeared, had been able to focus on it, rather than her.

Thankfully, she had mastered those ropes long ago—so well, in fact, that she was now in line to reap

the highest professional reward: an interview for the appointment of an adviser to the King of Cyrano.

In preparation, her dense chocolate-brown curls had been ruthlessly brushed back from her face,

heavily gelled, and confined into a thick French braid. Today—a day in which when she couldn’t afford

to have even a single hair out of place—she had used nearly double the amount of product to tame the

springy, indomitable mass.

She had learned long ago to avoid putting her hair in a bun. Too many academics harbored sexy

librarian fantasies.

The combination of the suit and the braid created a no-nonsense image—that of a serious academic.

It was precisely what Mina wanted to project. Especially since she was the youngest candidate ever to

sit for a parliamentary interview—and only the second woman ever nominated.

The door cracked open, and a page popped his perfectly coiffed head out.

First off  I want to give a big thanks to  publisher Sourcebooks Casablanca , the author Paige Tyler  as well as  NetGalley for inviting me to  join the blog tour as well as to read and review one of my favorite paranormal series . As soon as I saw the email for this one , there was no way i wasn't going to say yes, because i'm hooked when it comes to this series .Each time I read one of this books the series just keeps getting better and better . What can I say I'm hooked on them. And I just keep feeling in love with the characters, love how you get a background story on the main characters , and how the secondary characters were well-rounded and the antagonist was well-drawn out, the plot was complex with lots of twists and turns and the stakes were high which was other thing I love about this series . The significant amount of danger and action kept me fully engaged and made this a true page turner for me and after reading this I can't wait to read more of this books .

The guys in the Special Wolf Alpha Team (SWAT) are hotter than ever.

SWAT werewolf Diego Martinez was on a mission to save lives when he walked into the hostage situation—he didn’t expect to find a newly turned teenage werewolf and the kid’s fiercely protective mother. For Bree Harlow and her son, Brandon, Diego is a godsend, and not just because he saved the day.

Bree has spent the years since her divorce trying to do her best by Brandon. But lately the boy who used to tell her everything has been keeping secrets. In the face of all the bizarre things happening at home, there’s something about Diego that Bree can’t resist—especially when he’s able to explain Brandon’s new abilities.

But the hostage incident was just the start in a wave of violence that no one can explain, and when Bree and Brandon are caught in the middle, Diego will do everything in his power to protect the family he wants as his own.

Excerpt
Bree had no idea if seconds—or hours—passed, but then she heard something so out of place with her surroundings that it immediately snapped her back to reality.

Growling.

Low, soft, pained…growling.

And it was coming from Brandon.

She looked down to find him gazing up at her with vivid-gold eyes, half-inch-long fangs visible over his bottom lip.

Bree had always considered herself to be a strong person. She’d gone through a lot in her life and dealt with it. But she couldn’t ignore the obvious. The accumulated stress of this situation had been too much for her. She was having a mental breakdown. Because there was no way she was seeing what she thought she saw.

Suddenly, the SWAT cop was at her side, pulling Brandon up and talking to him in a slow, calm voice, telling him to relax and breathe, that everything was over and he was going to be okay at the same time he used his big body like a shield, keeping other people in the diner from seeing her son’s face. His voice was the most soothing and calming sound she’d ever heard in her life, and even though he wasn’t talking to her, she found herself breathing in time with his instructions—in through the nose, hold it for five seconds, and out through the mouth.

Bree watched in stunned fascination as the yellow glow slowly receded from her son’s eyes and the fangs disappeared. All at once, his panicked breathing and frantic features relaxed, and she realized it was the first time in months he didn’t seem tense.

There was a commotion behind her, and she glanced over her shoulder to see the other officers—dressed like Diego but with weapons and heavy-looking tactical gear strapped across their chests—quickly moving the rest of the hostages outside, herding them in such a way that they didn’t have time to look at the body on the floor…or Brandon.

It was like they were all working together to keep anyone from seeing what was happening with her son. Like they all somehow knew something unexplainable was going on with him.

“There you go, kid.” The SWAT cop’s deep voice made her turn back around, and she saw him standing there with his hands on Brandon’s shoulders. “Just a few more deep breaths and you’ll be good to go.”

Diego was right. A few seconds later, Brandon was fine, and Bree found herself wondering if everything she’d seen was a figment of her confused mind.

It could have been, right?

She felt a gentle hand on her arm and looked up into the warmest brown eyes she’d ever seen, a little overwhelmed by the concern she saw there. Diego didn’t even know her, and yet he seemed genuinely worried.

“I think we should get out of here,” he said, nodding toward Brandon. “This place is about to be crawling with cops, crime-scene techs, and general-purpose gawkers. I’d rather be somewhere else before they show up. We have a lot to talk about.”

She was about to ask what he meant by that, but then it hit her. Everything she’d seen had been real. Diego had seen it, too. And now he wanted to talk about it. Because that’s what cops did. They dug into stuff until they knew everything.

Bree’s heart began to thump hard all over again as she realized the danger her son might be in now. What if Diego revealed what he’d seen? Brandon would be treated like a monster. From the look on Brandon’s face, he realized the same thing and was on the verge of freaking out.

“Relax,” the cop said softly, looking first at Brandon, then her. “I’m not a threat to your son. I promise.”

Gaze locked with hers, Diego’s eyes flared vivid yellow-gold. The color was only there for a second before it disappeared, but it was impossible to miss. Or mistake it for anything other than what she’d seen in her son’s eyes. The cop looked at Brandon, earning a wide-eyed gasp. Bree had no idea what any of this meant, but it had to be a good sign…right?

“Like I said,” Diego murmured. “We have a lot to talk about.”

My thoughts

Rating:

Series:

Would I recommend it? Yes

Would I read more of this series? Yes

Would I read more by this author ? Yes , in fact this the second book by him that I've read , the first one was The Girl In the Ice.

First off I want to say huge  thank you to the publisher Thomas & Mercer ,the author Robert Bryndza , and to NetGalley  for letting me read and review it. Because as soon as I realized who the author was I knew I had to get it. And I'm so glad I did, because I got lost in the story as soon as I started it and couldn't put it down at all, I had to know what was going to happen next, and the characters out of them my two favorites are and was  Kate and Tristan. There was twist and turns that was nonstop, and every time I thought I had it figured out , I found out I was wrong. So if you like a story that is non stop, has lots of twist and turns and keeps you guessing then this is the one for you,

Burying the Dead

Welcome to my review for Burying the Dead: An Archaeological History of Burial Grounds, Graveyards and Cemeteries

Deep in the heart of North Yorkshire, at a place called Walkington Wold, there lies a rather unusual burial ground, an Anglo-Saxon execution cemetery

My thoughts
Rating: 4
Would I recommend it? Yes, in fact some of my friends have already added it to their wishlist.
Would I read more by this author?
Yes
First off I want to say huge  thank you to the publisher Pen & Sword , the author Lorraine Evans and to NetGalley for letting me request it as well as letting me read and review it, because as soon as I saw it on NetGalley I was like yes please because I love reading anything that deals with Archaeological History. And this book was everything I was hoping it would be , it was well researched and written, it was a gripping read from start to finish, and while it might not be for everyone, its perfect for the ones who love this type of book. It goes into detail of the types of burial as well as the history and the author has a way of bring it to life.
Deep in the heart of North Yorkshire, at a place called Walkington Wold, there lies a rather unusual burial ground, an Anglo-Saxon execution cemetery. Twelve skeletons were unearthed by archaeologists, ten without skulls, later examination of the skeletons revealed that their owners were all subjected to judicial execution by decapitation, one of which required several blows.

Similar fates have befallen other wretched souls, the undignified burial of suicides - in the Middle Ages, the most profound of sins - and the desecration of their bodies, go largely unrecorded. Whilst plague pits, vast cemeteries where victims of the Black Death were tossed into the ground, their bodies festering one on top of another, are only today betraying their secrets.

Although unpalatable to some, these burial grounds are an important part of our social heritage. They have been fashioned as much by the people who founded and used them, as by the buildings, gravestones and other features which they contain. They are records of social change; the symbols engraved upon individual memorials convey a sense of inherent belief systems, as they were constructed, adapted or abandoned depending on people’s needs.

Burying the Dead explores how these attitudes, practices and beliefs about death have undergone continual change. By studying the development of society’s funerary spaces, the author will reveal how we continue to reinforce our relationships with the dead, in a constant and on-going effort to maintain a bond with them.
