Would I recommend it? Yes in fact I've been tell my friends they have to check this one out if they read her other book The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women
Would I read more by this author? Yes.
First off a really big thank you to Sourcebooks ( Nonfiction), Madeleine Brown ( marketing assistant),and to the author Kate Moore for graciously reaching out to me and offering to send me a copy of this to read and review as well as to talk about on my social media pages .And I'm so glad that I said yes, for those who might not know or if you read some of my other reviews you'll know that one of my favorite genre to read is nonfiction, and that once I find an author that I like they have my backing 100% , but there's shorting things that I go in looking for its the same when I read historical fiction WW 2 based stories and that are these simple questions:
1: author has done their research
2: they bring their characters and their settings to life
3: they make you feel everything that the characters feel
4: and by the end of the book your a emotional wreck.
But with this author I already knew the answer would be yes , because as I stated in the question up above would I recommend it and I said yes , its because I read not once but twice her book The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women and its one of my all time favorite books to read and recommend it. How I found out about this one is I saw it on NetGalley and as soon as I saw the author , I knew that I wanted to see if I could get to read, plus it was on a topic that I knew non thing about , a part of our history that I never read about or even heard about and that's one of the biggest reasons I love reading nonfiction when it comes to something that catches my eye is because it teaches me something new . Plus I knew that Kate Moore wasn't going to let me down and I was right. I remember telling my friends that this book was going to be a very emotional type reading and man was I spot on its was upsetting, inspiring, and such an important part of women's history that's not even talked about , it also shows how far we've come when it comes to mental health and what at that time was considered to be mental health ( like for instance one of the things that could get us women sent to an Asylum was novel reading) as soon as I saw that my month dropped open. It also goes into detail of how even parts of our own body would be use as a sing of mental illness. As for my emotions they was all over the place , from wanting to break down and cry , to feeling like I was wanted to scream, and my heart broke for the main character Elizabeth. And it showed just how strong she was doing all of this as well as her her courage in frighting for what she thought was right especially doing a time where a woman should be seen and not heard. As for the story itself it came to life and brought the characters to life , there was times it felt like I could reach out and touch them . So with that said this is a book that needs to be read, its part of out history that helped make woman's right what they are today .
