Red Rising meets The Scorpio Races in this epic fantasy following three phoenix horse riders--skilled at alchemy--who must compete at The Races--the modern spectacle that has replaced warfare within their empire.

Every year since the Ashlords were gifted phoenix horses by their gods, they've raced them. First into battle, then on great hunts, and finally for the pure sport of seeing who rode the fastest. Centuries of blood and fire carved their competition into a more modern spectacle: The Races.

Over the course of a multi-day event, elite riders from clashing cultures vie to be crowned champion. But the modern version of the sport requires more than good riding. Competitors must be skilled at creating and controlling phoenix horses made of ash and alchemy, which are summoned back to life each sunrise with uniquely crafted powers to cover impossible distances and challenges before bursting into flames at sunset. But good alchemy only matters if a rider knows how to defend their phoenix horse at night. Murder is outlawed, but breaking bones and poisoning ashes? That's all legal and encouraged.

In this year's Races, eleven riders will compete, but three of them have more to lose than the rest--a champion's daughter, a scholarship entrant, and a revolutionary's son. Who will attain their own dream of glory? Or will they all flame out in defeat?

My thoughts
Would I recommend it? yes
Will I be going on with the series? yes
Would I read anything else by this author? yes
This isn't the first time I've read this author in in fact this is the third time , the first to times I read and reviewed books one and two of his series Nyxia Triad and I loved those so as soon as I got the litter from the publisher and saw the cover I was like yes please ,and I'm glad I did, the story is told in the views of three different characters that each come from different backgrounds. And the story is in a world where there is alchemical powers that is used to rise a breed of horse called Phoenix Horse , yes you read that right Phoenix horse and just like phoenixes they rise from the ash and are race against each other ,and there is different ones that can be summing , you just have to know which one to call and what the summing is ,  not only does it centers on the competition, but it also talking about  the  empire , corrupt gods, and the people who exist in a world of fire and blood and how it came to be the way it is. It also brings to life that some of the riders ride for glory, others ride for not themselves but for the love of their people and family and some ride to bring about a revolution , but to find out who is who you need to pick up the book for yourselves with that said I want to say thank you to Netgalley as well as the publishers for letting me read and review it .
